Scenarios

Scenarios for any staff acting to create a new CofP or extend a CofP from previous year(s)

A. Teacher/Administrator Creator

Tim has an Idea for a CofP.  He has a curriculum area and an instructional strategy, he would like to explore in research and classroom practice.  He has considered links to the District 3YP / SEP / his personalized Learning Plan goals.  He wants to propose a community so others with a similar interest or need will join him in this work.  He knows that by proposing a community, he can host the community at his employment location.

1.    He goes to the CofP home page.

2.    Reviews the criteria protocols (Step 1 of Quick Links).

3.    Contacts his administrator for endorsement of CofP.

4.    Talks to other staff for feedback on his idea.

5.    Returns to CofP to complete the Creation ‘WP Form’ formally (Step 3 of Quick Links).

He is now  the "contact person"  for this community.

B. Support Staff Creator

Henry has an idea for a CofP.  He has a job-related situation which requires new learning and/or problem solving.  He recognizes links with the District 3YP/SEP and his personalized Learning Plan goals.  He wants to propose a community so others will join him in exploring this new learning.

He is now the contact person for this community.

C. Scenario for anyone unsure if a community already exist that interests them - Browse and Register or Browse and Create

Sandy goes to the "Review the Created Communities" spread sheet (Step 2 of Quick Links) and browses submitted CofPs and finds a topic/description for a community she wishes to join. Sandy reviews the elements of the descriptor template.  In particular she checks the Inquiry, Competencies and level of expertise/challenge because these factors distinguish CofP’s with similar goals/directions/descriptions.

Sandy likes this criteria fit.  Sandy records the following information: Creators name, Name of CofP, Cluster, location of first meeting and email.

Sandy completes the online registration form (Step 3 of Quick Links).

OR

Sandy does not like this criteria fit.  She desires a different level of challenge in the same topic OR knows that there are other individuals in a different sector of the district who could form a similar interest community.  Sandy goes to the create a community form (Step 3 of Quick Links) and completes a NEW CofP.  Now Sandy is the Contact for this new CofP.

Scenario for an Individual who missed the creation of CofP registration deadline

Lindsay had an idea for a new community of practice but she missed the deadline for proposing the creation of a new CofP or extending a former CofP.   What happens now? She must choose from the communities listed on the review created communities.

Scenario for an Individual who missed the registration for a CofP

Mary missed the deadline for registration in any of the proposed or existing CofPs.  Now she must approach her supervisor / administrator and seek approval to register.   Mary’s choice is limited to the already proposed CofPs.
